The
Xoxote shelter locates on the Izarraitz range, next to Xoxote
mountain and very close to Erlo mountain. Today it offers
every kind of services, but it started like no more than
a shack used for sheep shelter. The mountaineers reaching
there, however, made use of it to change clothes, eat something
or protect themselves from bad weather. The true purpose
of building a shelter sorted out when the shack burned out,
at the end of the seventies. Lagun
Onak M.B Mountain Club decided to build up a new shelter
and, in 1983, they went for it. It was not easy to raise
this shelter just at the top of Xoxote Mountain, but it
was worthy thanks to the efforts of many neighbours of the
surrounding area. May 27, 1984, Xoxote Day, at last the
shelter opened up and, since then, for everybody´s
enjoyment, has kept its doors open.
