Though we´re talking about a humble mountain, this
summit gets a lot of visits because of the quality of
its views. It´s found very close to Xoxote shelter
and it´s lined up with the statue of Saint Ignatius
of Loyola. Going down from the top, northwards, we will
arrive to Azketa range, and there we will find a stone
"nevera" (a building used for snow storage),
next to a "borda" or a cabin typical in basque
mountains. Here in the "nevera" the locals used
to store and keep the snow fallen during the winter and
then bring it down to Zestoa and Azpeitia. They would
carry it by ox-pulled wagons. In order to make the transport
easier, they builded up a cobbled roadway coming up from
Zestoa and that´s still in use these days.

It´s the highest top of Izarraitz. Despite its moderate
height, it´s found very close to the sea, that means
that we will count on a big slope if we go up from one
of the nearly valleys. At the top we will see a big cross
(Erlo cross, 1022m.). If we want to climb to the highest
point, it´s needed to advance a bit more by the
border of the mountain, until we arrive to a smaller cross.
Here we will find the true Erlo summit(1026m.) and the
amazing views that this privileged balcony offers. On
a bright day, we will be able to watch almost the entire
basque coastline and the Landas coastline to the northeast.
To the southwest we will get a glimpse of the Rocky Mountains
on the Duranguesado and also Picos de Europa, if the mist
allows to do so. If we look to the east we will see Peñas
de Aia, Larrun and the Pyreneés summits, and if
we turn southwards Aralar, Aizkorri and Sierra de Urbasa.
From this point, westwards, we will arrive to the top
of Eskorta(1004m.), where a tv aerial it´s been
installed.

This top, belonging to Azkoitia. it´s found separated
from Xoxote by Zamaleku range. There is a big cross at
the top. From a viewpoint, we will watch Iraurgi valley
at our feet. To reach here we will start at the parking
of Aittola(Alto de Madariaga), crossing through a pleasant
and easy path, very suitable for an outing day with children.
Before we confront the last slope we´ll be able
to drink some water on the spring of Izkitturri or eat
something in the free shelter just a few steps before.
