Xoxote shelter locates on the Izarraitz
range, just in the border betwen Azkoitia, Azpeitia and
Deba.
It´s a part of Natura 2000 net and, even not being
considered as a Natural Park, it is established as Community
Interest Area. Natura 2000 is an environmental net at european
level. Protecting fauna & flora of specific areas, they
intend to maintain biodiversity.
Izarraitz
range joins the wildest spots betwen Deba and Urola, the
highest summits are on its eastern slope: Erlo(1026m.),
Kakuta(924m.), Xoxote(912 m.) and Sesiarte( 743m.). This
range extends to the coastline, where it´s found the
Ardutz mountain(612m.), very close to the sea. Mountain
tops and meadows and the hidden valleys create a unique
landscape, very appropiate for wildlife.
We can´t forget the significance of subterranean world,
since this lime range it´s ploughed with splits and
caves.
